The Dog's Frolics Host Joe Nutkins In Conversation With Fusiology Productions
The theft of a dog is a heinous crime which leaves a trail of devastation in its wake. Long gone are the days when dogs were "just dogs", they are family, as dear to us as any other family member & when they are abducted we are bereft.
Dog theft has spiralled out of control as organised gangs & opportunist thieves look to cash in on the pandemic puppy market which has seen demand outstrip supply & prices skyrocket.
Joe Nutkins, presenter of The Dog's Frolics on Dog Desk Radio caught up with the directors of Muddy Paws Crime a Fusiology Productions project to discuss Muddy Paws Crime, a production which aims to raise awareness regarding topics such as dog thefts, puppy farming & more.

Stray - A Film By Elizabeth Lo
Through the eyes of three stray dogs wandering the streets of Istanbul, STRAY explores what it means to live as a being without status or security. As they search for food and shelter, Zeytin, Nazar and Kartal embark on inconspicuous journeys through Turkish society that allow us an unvarnished portrait of human life — and their own canine culture. Zeytin, fiercely independent, embarks on solitary adventures through the city at night; Nazar, nurturing and protective, easily befriends the humans around her; while Kartal, a shy puppy living on the outskirts of a construction site, finds refuge with the security guards who care for her. The disparate lives of Zeytin, Nazar and Kartal intersect when they each form intimate bonds with a group of young Syrians who share the streets with them. Whether they lead us into bustling streets or decrepit ruins, the gaze of these strays act as windows into the overlooked corners of society: women in loveless marriages, protesters without arms, refugees without sanctuary. The film is a critical observation of human civilization through the unfamiliar gaze of dogs and a sensory voyage into new ways of seeing.
Man's Best Friend :
Director: Michael Bird | Producer: Ovidiu Dunel Stancu
Genre: Documentary | Produced In: 2013 | Story Teller's Country: Romania
Synopsis: In Romania, stray dogs are everywhere. Up to two million are loose across the country, stalking the streets, playgrounds and outside hospitals, hotels, the Central Bank and the Parliament. Every year the dogs attacks tens of thousands of people and fatalities are common.
In response, the Government in Bucharest is preparing to pass a law allowing councils to mass-kill the dogs, but there is passionate resistance.
‘Man’s Best Friend’ is an independent, micro-budget 67 minute documentary revealing a nation torn between those who love the dogs and those who want them to disappear.
Using guerrilla footage, interviews with leading experts and authorities, graphic images of capture and secret film of abuse, this is a raw look at all the sides in the battle over strays.
Solutions to the problem depicted include euthanasia of the dogs, releasing the animals in the countryside, sending them for adoption to west Europe or tranquillizing the dogs with a blow-pipe, sterilizing them and returning them to the streets.
Shot over 18 months in Bucharest, the Transylvanian countryside and cities and the Netherands, this feature shows how the stray dog crisis is a symptom of a new EU nation's struggle to find an identity 23 years after its brutal Communist dictatorship.
